Episode Recap

We can already tell today’s episode is going down as a favorite! Not only do we have some very exciting news to share, but our topic covers the foundational elements of how to make lasting change. We talk every week about improving some area of our lives so we wanted to break down the process of how we actually go about making these changes.

Kristin shares the 4 steps in this formula, along with an example of something she’s currently working on changing in her life to illustrate how it works. Laura shares the perfect example of how she’s used this formula over the last couple years without even realizing it as she has grown her photography business.

No need to read a long post, just click HERE to download our freebie on How To Make Lasting Change: A beautiful pdf of the 4 steps and how to take them.

  1. Learn about the topic you want to improve in order to generate excitement and curiosity about the subject.

    1. You don’t have to feel the excitement FIRST -- learning about it will help you be more interested as you go along.

    2. You can learn through:

      1. Podcasts

      2. Books

      3. Online courses

      4. Social media

      5. Real life friends and community

  2. Explore it through journaling

    1. Write out exactly what the problem is, how you want to change.

    2. Ask the right questions that get your brain working a different way, write out the answers. (Don’t let yourself get away with “I don’t know”)

      1. How can I…

        1. How can I improve this aspect of my life?

      2. What exactly do I want to be different in this area?

      3. Why is this a priority?

      4. What would be one way I could ____?

      5. If this were possible, how would I do it?

      6. If my future self were telling someone how I accomplished/overcame/changed this, what would she say?

      7. If I totally transformed this part of my life, how would that story sound in a year from now?

    3. Look for simple first steps, common threads of similar ideas.

  3. Make a plan to add it to your life

    1. Set a goal that excites and inspires you (listen to ep. 6 on goal setting)

    2. Decide it’s a real commitment, not just something you might do

    3. Decide your first small actions

      1. One small action gives you MOMENTUM

    4. Know what your obstacles will be and plan for them

      1. Think of it as “redirection” when you get off track -- no big deal

      2. Write yourself through the problems as they arise

      3. Revisit your list of questions from before.

  4. Make sure it’s a heart change, not just a change in actions

    1. Knowing your true motive and keeping it at the forefront of your mind

    2. Changing the thoughts/feelings behind it all

      1. Determined/peaceful/excited thoughts vs guilty/fearful thoughts

      2. Check out our bonus episode on Patreon for more on this topic!
