Ep. 18 How to Have Confidence in Any Situation

Ep. 18 Having Confidence in Any Situation (1).jpg

Today’s episode is all about confidence!

Both of us have experienced a dramatic increase in self-confidence throughout our adult years and we each share what has helped us with that. Of course there are always surface-level changes we can make like dressing better or learning to be a better conversationalist that help us feel better in certain situations, but we really wanted to talk about the deeper heart-changes that truly can help us be confident, no matter what situation we find ourselves in.

We share three fundamental shifts for true confidence and how changing the way we think can make all the difference in how confident we feel.

Episode Recap

Laura’s definition of self-confidence: the ability to trust myself, to keep going even when I fail or make mistakes, more about mindset and controlling emotions. Knowing I can trust myself no matter what.

Kristin’s definition of confidence: the ability to do the things that I need/want to do without drama in my own head -- and to do them in a way that feels true to myself.

Our self confidence instructs others how to treat us -- it’s like we’re saying to the world, “I really like myself, so you should too!”

Here are three fundamental shifts we believe can help us develop true and lasting confidence:

  1. Know that you have a divine nature and that you are on the same level as every other person.

  2. Be willing to challenge & change the beliefs about yourself.

  3. Continually improve yourself -- but also accept yourself.

It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare.

All day long we are, in some degree, helping each other to one or other of these destinations.

There are no ‘ordinary’ people.

You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilisations — these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat.

But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit…

Next to the Blessed Sacrament itself, your neighbor is the holiest object presented to your senses.
