Two Minute Practice for More Peace in Your Day

Ready for a little more peace in your day? Great! You are definitely in the right place! I (Laura) have loved incorporating this little two minute practice into my morning routine and it has made such a difference!

It’s all about preparing mentally and emotionally for your day before it even begins. I’ve found it’s always worth it to take a little time to plan and prepare for the day ahead of time so you have more control over how you want to feel that day and how you’re going to react if…okay when…things don’t go as planned.

No more overreacting when things don’t go as planned. No more frustrations when others show up differently that day than I expected.

Here’s HOW to practice more peace in your day in just two minutes:

  1. Set a daily intention

  2. Choose HOW you want to feel today

  3. Come up with a few replacement thoughts to insert when things don’t go as planned

Scroll down and we’ll walk you through how to actually practice each one.

  1. How to Set a Daily Intention

What do you want your intention to be for the day? What’s most important to you today? What are you going to focus on? This is basically the thoughts or language you want to focus on throughout the day.

You could create your own mantra, come up with a word or simple phrase that represents your intention for the day.

If you’re struggling to find the right intention or don’t know what your day is going to be like try mentally walking through your day. Picture what your day might look like and decide ahead of time how you’re going to respond when things don’t go as planned.

2. Choose How You Want To Feel Today

So the first step is to focus on your thoughts. Now the second step is all about your feelings. How do you actually want to feel today?

Be specific.

It can and mostly likely will change from day to day. So depending on your day, how do you want to feel?

Examples:

  • Proud, energized, thoughtful, caring, confident, productive, fun, creative, helpful, loving, important, successful etc.

Choosing HOW you want to feel ahead of time can make all the difference. Then just be sure that your thoughts and intention line up with those feelings. And remember YOU get to feel however you want to feel! You don’t need to wait for others to give you love and attention. You can give yourself that from the get go.

3. Have a Few Replacement Thoughts For When Things Don’t Go As Planned

If we haven’t prepared mentally and emotionally for the day then when things don’t go as planned during the day we start to say or think the first thought that comes to us…which is hardly ever helpful.

This is why it’s great to have a few replacement thoughts ready to go. So that when your day doesn’t pan out how you thought, you can replace those negative and discouraging thoughts with your new ones that are actually helpful!

This part takes practice, but that’s why it’s great to come up with a few words during your two minute morning practice so as you go about your day you can try using those ones.

Examples:

  • “That’s okay, let’s try again”

  • “I have as much time as I need”

  • “I can do hard things”

  • “Let’s see if there’s another way we can do this”

  • “Can this wait?”

Preparing For More Peace

WHEN to practice: Tie this two minute practice to something in your morning routine so you can easily practice it each morning. Here are some examples:

  • Morning meditation or prayer

  • Morning shower

  • walk/getting ready/exercise

  • Journal

  • Making kids breakfast

This two minute practice of setting an intention, choosing how you want to feel and coming up with a few replacement thoughts is not about being pessimistic. This is about preparation. It’s also not about avoiding feeling bad or disappointment.

Preparing just means less time for drama. It’s less about controlling circumstances or emotions and more about managing your thoughts and feelings to align with the person you want to become.

We really hope this helps and can’t wait to hear how you’re able to find more peace throughout your day as well!
