We used to think that lasting happiness was always just around the corner. If we could just figure out this problem or get this thing we wanted, then it would be smooth sailing and we’d finally be living the fulfilled life.

Just like we have, you’ve probably found that you never actually “make it” in life, right? This idea can be discouraging but we’ve found that it’s actually liberating. If circumstances won’t ever make us happy, we must be able to be happy in spite of circumstances.

And that’s what we’re discussing in this episode. We talked about:

  • 3 keys to living a more fulfilled life

  • How to stop living just for the future

  • How each of us finds satisfaction and joy despite circumstances

  • Thinking of fulfillment as a state of being (not just thoughts you think)

It really is possible to find joy in the everyday

We have found that it really is possible to find satisfaction and contentment in the everyday of life and not just when we reach a goal or get what we want. We fall into this idea that we’ll be happy when the next good thing happens or when life settles down. But it’s not very useful to live waiting for the next thing.

How can we be excited for the future but also just be happy where we are?

The truth is that we don’t have to live always waiting for the future. We can live a truly fulfilled life by accessing a state of being where we feel grateful, content, inspired, and purposeful.

What is enough?

Are there things you need to change in order to feel more fulfilled? Maybe you could let go of a desire that prevents you from feeling happy right now. Maybe you could relax your expectations of yourself -- or ask yourself to do more.

What’s really important is to make sure that you’re not allowing the wants or desires of the future to overpower what you do have today. It’s okay to want those things, but not to let them prevent your ability to feel satisfied with your current life.

Don’t let your circumstances have that kind of power over whether or not you feel fulfilled!
