Ex. #1 Finding Time To Write

Our first examples is from our listener Lorren.

Biggest struggle?

  • Making time to write

Tool she implemented?

  • Evaluated how she wanted to use her magic hours

  • Set up rituals up for different times of day

Result?

  • Able to work on creative projects that are important to her while still taking time for rest and relaxation (best of both worlds!)

  • She feels much more fulfilled and calm

Here’s how Lorren made time for what she loves!

She said, “I used to really struggle with making time to write. I always set goals but often didn't follow through on them because other, more urgent things took up my free time.

But then I worked on evaluating how I wanted to spend my "magic hours" and set up some rituals for different times of day. For example, I use evening hours almost exclusively for reading and spending time with my husband. I know I can look forward to that rest time, so I am motivated to do creative work during the early morning and when I have childcare set up during the day.

And now I am able to work on creative projects that are important to me while still taking time for rest and relaxation and I feel so much more fulfilled and calm.” - Lorren

Ex. #2 Not Enough Confidence

Next up is our wonderful listener and Patron, Anna.

Biggest struggle?

  • Confidence

Tool she implemented?

  • Showing up everyday for her magic hours

Result?

  • She was able to find her creative voice and tackle illustration projects

  • Realistically plan how long it takes to complete her projects

  • Feels much more confidence, peace and joy

Here’s how Anna made time for what she loves!

She said, I use to struggle with confidence. I had a full life and it was incredibly easy to not create time for what I dreamed of doing: writing and illustrating books. After having my fourth child I felt strongly that I needed to work at something just for me and my development. When I did sit down to work on drawing I didn’t enjoy it because I didn’t feel like I was getting anywhere and then I felt guilty for wasting the time. It felt like a battle inside me.

But then I worked on showing up everyday for magic hours, and gradually I learned how to plan what I would work on ahead of time. I was able to see more progress because I was learning to trust myself and the process of growth.

And now I am able to find my creative voice and tackle illustration projects and realistically plan how long it will take me to complete them. I feel so much more confidence, peace, and joy which has helped in all areas of my life.” - Anna

Ex. #3 Using Your Time Wisely

This example comes from our dear friend and avid listener, Cindy.

Biggest struggle?

  • Finding the time to write and when she found the time, using it wisely.

Tool she implemented?

  • Found her magic hours and used the 2 hours her kiddos were at preschool strictly for writing

  • Decided ahead of time

  • Used accountability, set deadlines, and was very specific

  • Communicated with family & spouse to carve out more time

  • She treated her creative project more like a job

Result?

  • She published her first novella this past winter

  • Her first full length book is due out in April!

Here’s how Cindy made time for what she loves!

She said, “As an aspiring author, mine was finding the time to write and when I found the time, using it wisely.

Every stage of life as a mom is different and changing, but when my twins began going to preschool for 2 hours a day, three days a week, I decided ahead of time that I would use that strictly as my writing time.

If possible, I would straighten my house and get my dishes done and beds made before they left for school so when I got home for those two hours to myself, I had less “mom” distractions. That really helped me to utilize the time I had and to get into the mind frame of working.

I also joined a critique group and got feedback and encouragement on my work which was helpful to have accountability. Setting deadlines for myself and being brave and announcing those deadlines (like book release dates) made me more accountable and efficient and that made all the difference for me.

I also have tried to get my family/husband on board to help me carve out more time for my writing, to try to treat it a bit more like a job. That’s been helpful as well.

I published my first novella this past winter and my first full length book is due out in April. I seriously don’t know who I am anymore.” - Cindy
