Choosing Differently

Is there something you want to change this year that you’ve tried to change in the past but haven’t been successful?

Creating the life you want to live is all about making little daily decisions.

So if we want something new or different we have to remember that we need to choose something different than we have in the past.

This idea of “choosing differently” can work with any thing you’d like to change where you haven’t had success in the past. Here are some examples:

  • A Big Goal like:

    • Starting a business

    • creating a more healthy lifestyle

    • organizing all your photos

  • A Small Habit like:

    • Meal planning

    • Scriptures study

  • Working out a Problem like:

    • Relationship

    • Managing your time better

Whatever it is you want to work on it’s important to apply this simple, but powerful concept of “choosing differently” to any goal, habit or problem you’re wanting to work on.

So how do we choose differently?

First we need to start by asking ourselves really good questions. That’s why we’ve come up with 5 great questions to ask yourself to find out WHAT exactly you need to choose differently this time around so you can get closer to achieving your goal!

In this episode (ep. 103) you can hear our answers to these questions as we walked through it with our big goal for the podcast in 2020.

Feel free to go through these questions yourself with whatever goal you’re wanting to achieve!

These 5 questions will help you find out WHAT exactly you need to choose differently

Has there been a goal that you’ve tried before, but haven’t succeeded at?

Try asking yourself all 5 of these or just a few to find out what you need to choose differently this time around.

1. What have you been lacking in the past?

2. What’s gotten in the way before?

3. Where do you get stuck or when do you usually quit?

  • Ex. When it gets hard, when you don’t see results, when you get bored of it, something else becomes more attractive and exciting etc.

4. What kind of traits or skills does a person who has solved this problem or achieved this goal have that you don’t?

  • Ex. They’re more organized, have courage to experiment, confidence, perseverance, patience, they practice self love etc

  • What traits or skills would YOU want to gain after you’ve achieved this goal or made this change? (This is our favorite thing to ask ourselves!)

    • Ex. Trust yourself, confidence, creativity, better listening to yourself or others etc

5. How are you going to choose different this year? How are you going to keep practicing this until it becomes a heart change?

  •     Ex. Continuing even when it’s uncomfortable, get more support from others & God, give ourselves more grace & understanding

Asking yourself these questions can help you uncover what it is that’s stopped you in the past and what new choices and decisions you need to make this time that you haven’t in the past.

You’ll find that it’s not just about crossing something of you’re to do list that you haven’t before, but it’s about acquiring the skills and traits that are required to accomplish the goal you really want to achieve.
